While making various Photoshop things I ended up picking certain fonts for each character’s handwriting.
Flynn had a very shaky literary education. I’m assuming there aren’t public schools in the lower quarter, so he probably learned on and off, got lessons from his parents, and rarely had need to write frequently as a child. Because of this, he puts concerted effort into making his writing as neat and professional as he can. He writes slowly and deliberately to carefully form each letter.
Yuri’s education was similar to Flynn’s, but unlike Flynn he never put much effort into improving. His writing comes in messy scrawls and probably a lot of spelling mistakes, too. Writing has never been important to Yuri, so he doesn’t put much effort into it.
In contrast, Estelle had the best tutors in the empire to instruct her writing. She has beautifully neat cursive that Yuri honestly has trouble deciphering sometimes.
Rita had a proper foundation in writing (ties into my headcanons about her past but that’s another post) but doesn’t put much care into making sure it’s legible. Her cursive got so bad she switched to printing so other people can at least tell it’s words and not scribbles. She writes in tiny print so she can fit as much information on a page as possible.
As a noble and a captain, Raven is capable of very formal writing, but he put effort into cultivating a “Raven” style of writing that’s messier and uses it full time now. His writing still has remnants of how he originally learned to write, with neat loops and thin curves.
I don’t really have a good explanation for this one. It just felt like it fit Judith.
Karol is a 12 year olds boy and he writes like a child. But, he does put more care into it than most 12 year old boys because he maintains meticulous records for the monster book and the guild. His writing will get much neater in a few years as he grows up.
Sodia is a noble and writes very neatly and professionally. It has very little flowery additions but enough to tell she had proper instruction.
